Top 10 Freedom Fighters of India:- India was a part of the British Empire from 1858 to 1947. Queen Victoria had been made the empress of India. But in the end, India gained Independence on 15 August, in the year 1947. We get Independence after so many martyrs and the struggle of our freedom fighters that continued for a long period of time.

Some Freedom activists wrote their golden names in history, but some names are still unknown. So, here is the list of our brave Indian Freedom fighters of all time who fought for our freedom.

No.1 Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Sardar Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel is at the first position in India’s list of top 10 freedom fighters. He was the first former deputy prime minister of India. He was born in Nadia on 31 October in the year 1875. The satyagraha in Bartoli gave him the name of Sardar Patel. He is also known as Bismarck of India, Iron Man of India, Strong Man. He was a Barrister (Lawyer), but he quit his profession and want to struggle for India’s freedom. He played a vital role in forming a United India rather than ruled as the different kingdoms. In 1991, he was awarded Bharat Ratna. He died on 15 December 1950 because of a Heart attack in Mumbai. He is a Royal Star of India, and we can not forget his sacrifices for India.

No.2 Bhagat Singh

Bhagat Singh is at the second position in the list of India’s most popular top 10 freedom fighters. He was born in Banga, Punjab (now in Pakistan) on 28 September, in the year 1907. He was born in a Sikh family. He was also part of the Non-Cooperation movement, which was done in 1921. He started ‘Naujawan Bharat Sabha’ to encourage the youth to fight against Britishers. After the chauri-chaura massacre, his anger was at its peak. He killed John Saunders and Channan Singh and caught later by the British army. He died on 23 March 1931 in Central Jail, Lahore, Pakistan. He is most famous among youngsters for his proud martyr at the age of 23, for the country.

No.3 Chandra Shekhar Azad

Chandra Shekhar Azad is in the third position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. His real name was Chandra Shekhar Tiwari. Azad was his self-taken name that becomes popular. He was born on 23 July, in the year 1906, in Bhavra village. He was also a part of HSRA – Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. He was close to Bhagat Singh. Azad becomes aggressive after the drawback of the Non-cooperation Movement. He planned the Kakori Train Robbery in the year 1925. He decided to kill himself instead of being caught by Britishers. In 1931, he killed many enemies and then shot himself with his pistol and died on 27 February.

No.4 Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi is at the fourth position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. His real name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was an Indian Lawyer. He was born in Porbander, Gujarat, on 2 October, in the year 1869. He is also known as the Father of the Nation. He raised his voice against racial discrimination in South Africa that inspired him to fight against British rule. He was involved in Khilafat Movement, Non-cooperation Movement, Salt Satyagraha, Quit India Movement, etc. On 30 January, Nathu Ram Godse shot him with a pistol, and he died at the age of 78.

No.5 Sukhdev

Sukhdev Thapar is at the fifth position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. He was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, on 15 May, in the year 1907. He was the head of Punjab HSRA (Hindustan Socialist Republican Association). He was also a member of Naujawan Bharat Sabha. He was involved in several movements for freedom along with Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru. He was Hanged till death on 23 March, in the year 1931. He is most among youngsters for his proud martyr at the age of 23, for the country.

No.6 Subhash Chandra Bose

Subhash Chandra Bose is at the sixth position in the list of India’s top 10 popular freedom fighters. He was born in Cuttack on 23 January, in the year 1897. He is also known as “Netaji” all over the world. When he listens to the incident of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, he got hurt and tensed & returned to India in 1921 from England. Bose was also Involved in Civil Disobedience Movement. He is the only man who founded Indian National Army and Azad Hind Fauj and Germany for help. On 18 August 1945, Netaji was caught in an airplane crash and died at 48. India will never forget his brave freedom fighter.

No.7 Rani Lakshmi Bai

Rani Lakshmi Bai is at the seventh position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. Manikarnika Tambe was her real name and nicknamed Manu. She was the Queen of the Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh, India. In 1857, she was the biggest Indian Rebel who inspired many more women against the Britishers. She was born in a Brahmin family of Varanasi on 19 November, in the Year 1828. She married Gangadhar Rao Newalkar, the king of Jhansi, who died in the year 1853. She died while fighting with British soldiers on 18 June in the year 1858.

No.8 Bal Gangadhar Tilak

Bal Gangadhar Tilak is at the eighth position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. His real name was Keshav Gangadhar Tilak, and he was well known as Lokmanya Tilak across India. He was born in the Ratnagiri district of Bombay on 23 July in the year 1856. Mahatma Gandhi honored him by saying that ” He is the Maker of Modern India. ” Bal Gangadhar Tilak was known for his quote, ” Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it. ” He died on 1 August in the year 1920 at the age of 64. He is one of the brightest stars of India.

No.9 Mangal Pandey

Mangal Pandey is at the ninth position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. He played a vital role as an Indian Rebel in the year 1857. He was born in Nagwa village, in Ballia District of Uttar Pradesh, in the year 1831. In 1849, he joined the Bengal Army. British raj gives the order to hang him for killing major Hewson. He died on 8 April, in the year 1857, at the age of 26. Indian Government honored him by issuing a postage stamp with the name of Mangal Pandey in the year 1984 to remember him.

No.10 Lal Bahadur Shastri

Last but not Least, Lal Bahadur Shastri is at the tenth position in the list of top 10 freedom fighters of India. Lal Bahadur Shastri had also served as 3rd former Prime Minister of India. He was born in Mughalsarai on 2 October in the year1904. He was involved in the White revolution for Milk and Green Revolution for Food Grains. He was also part of the Non-Cooperation Movement. His Slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” becomes very popular during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965. He died on 11 January 1966 in Tashkent at the age of 61. He was awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously.
