Famous Indian Volleyball players:- Volleyball is undoubtedly is a very popular and famous sport all over the world. Other sports like Cricket, hockey, and football volleyball are not as popular as those but still, the country produced so many talented players.

Famous Indian Volleyball players

The game of volleyball gained proper attention and a function with the formation of a national governing body of Volleyball as the Volleyball Federation of India(VFI) in 1951. Before the formation of VFI volleyball used to happen just in the interstate tournament which grew to Senior National Championships for the first time in 1952. The first professional ever produced by India was the most talented Jimmy George who was considered one of the best-known players ever in the world volleyball.

About:- Jimmy George is considered one of the greatest professional volleyball players from India. He was the playing member of India’s National Volleyball team. He was also the first Indian volleyball player who becomes a professional and played volleyball for a club in Italy. He is the brother-in-law of Olympian Anju Bobby George. Hw represented India in the 1986 Asian Games and also won a bronze medal for the country. He was also the youngest volleyball player to win an Arjuna Award at the age of 21. He was considered one of the best attackers during his prime while playing club volleyball in Italy. He died in a car accident at the young age of 32 years.

He is currently the head coach of the Indian national team. He is considered as one of the finest coaches who make India win gold in Asian games. He also won Dronacharya Award in 2008 by then-President Smt. Pratibha Deisingh Patil.

He represented the Indian national team during the Asian Games of 1970, 1974, and 1978. He played nationally from 1965 to 1988 which helped Punjab to won the national titles 10 times mainly with the performance of Singh. He received the highest sports honor of the country in 1972 for his contribution to the national team.

He was given Arjuna Award in 1991 for his contribution to the game of volleyball.

She completed her graduation from Panjab University with a master’s degree in Political Science. She was also the Director for Women in the State Department.
